Pilot participants will have the ability to round-up purchases, contributing funds to the charities of their choice and amplifying their charitable giving.
Today, we are proud to announce we are teaming up with American Express to pilot Amex Round-Up a new offering for select U.S. Basic Consumer Card Members.
As part of a limited time pilot program, eligible Card Members will have the opportunity to signup for a Philanthropi Impact Account™ and contribute funds to the charities of their choice through their American Express account. Once signed up for their Impact Account and enrolled in the Amex Round-Up Program, eligible Card Members will have the ability to round up their American Express purchases to the nearest $1, $5 or $10, and contribute the additional funds to the non-profit of their choice.
“This is an important moment in Philanthropi’s journey to democratize giving and amplify its impact. By working with American Express on Amex Round-Up, we are empowering everyday givers to contribute what they can to the causes they care most about through simple round ups to their purchases,” said Keith Leaphart, Founder and CEO of Philanthropi. “We look forward to watching the program develop over the next year and are excited about the potential impact it will have on charitable giving and the causes Card Members support.”
The news of the Amex Round-Up Program comes on the heels of the expansion of our charitable Giving as a Service™ platform to all consumers, who can create Impact Accounts by simply linking a credit or debit card.
Our platform enables the creation of Impact Accounts, which are donor-advised funds (DAFs) that support giving for everyone. These accounts simplify and organize giving by allowing individuals to track when, where, and how much is given from their Impact Account through a comprehensive and intuitive dashboard. The platform also provides easy-to-access tax information for year-end tax returns, removing the friction of manual tracking. Additionally, when donations are made through an Impact Account, we validate the recipient to see that dollars are given to official non-profit organizations that meet the local, state, and federal non-profit status requirements.
“Our pilot with Philanthropi allows us to offer our Card Members a seamless way to contribute to the causes they care most about regardless of where they shop” said Lisa Yokoyama, Head of
Product for Amex Digital Labs. “Together, through Amex Round-Up, we’re making charitable giving simple and sustainable while further delivering on our ESG strategy.”
American Express is currently piloting the Amex Round-Up Program by invitation to a select number of American Express U.S. Basic Consumer Card Members in the United States and its territories. During the pilot, only Primary Card Members will be eligible to enroll in Amex Round-Up.
